Reports to: Vice President R & D
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will direct chemical synthesis efforts at Selecta Russia. The focus will be on conjugation of small molecules, peptides, and possibly larger biomolecules to biodegradable polymer chains (e. g., PLGA) which create the raw materials for Selecta's self assembling nanoparticles as well as conjugation to pre-formed nanoparticles. Additional organic synthesis of novel chemical compounds that have immune system activity will also be required. This will include transfer of knowhow from Selecta Biosciences, Inc. (Boston, MA, USA) as well as independent development in Russia. The successful candidate will be well versed in organic synthesis and able to conceive and execute appropriate and scalable chemical routes to achieve the desired end products. The successful candidate also needs to be familiar with appropriate analytical techniques to characterize the synthesized materials (e. g. TLC, NMR, LC/MS). This position will require hands on work in the lab and it is expected that the successful candidate will be able to build and lead a highly functional and talented team. The successful candidate will also be able to work with people with diverse backgrounds and abilities for the purpose of solving complex chemical and biological problems for the development of products. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Russian are required as is the demonstrated ability to lead teams. Travel to the United States for training and other research related functions at Selecta's USA facilities will also be part of the role.
Education Requirements: Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or related field
Experience: Minimum of 8 years experience in synthetic organic chemistry. Experience in medicinal chemistry, polymer chemistry and/or polymer analytical techniques considered a plus. Title and compensation will be commensurate with education and experience.
